- Dense Multilayered Pelage: Up to 5 inches thick along its belly, the coat traps an insulating layer of warm air. Its smoky-gray rosette pattern dissolves seamlessly into fractured gneiss rock.
- Broad Snowshoe Paws: Wide, fur-cushioned paws distribute body weight across snowdrifts, muffling sound and granting traction on icy 60-degree cliffs.
- Metre-Long Balancing Tail: Nearly the length of its entire body, the heavy, thick tail acts as a counterweight during acrobatic 50-foot leaps across ravines and doubles as a warm thermal face-wrap while sleeping.
Conservation in the Modern Era
As glacial retreat accelerates and human pastoralism pushes higher into alpine valleys, snow leopard territories face fragmentation.
